Proton therapy was first used to treat patients in 1954 and received FDA approval in 1988. Proton radiation therapy destroys tumors with a precise, targeted dose of radiation. Proton beams break the DNA of cancer cells with minimal impact on healthy tissue.

Danbury Proton is a revolutionary, high-tech, world-class, life-saving proton therapy cancer treatment center that’s proposed in Danbury. It’s about a $90 million project using no state funds, that will create about 100 construction jobs for two years, about 30 permanent jobs, generate significant local and state tax revenue, be a remarkable example of “green” building design and operation, and improve the quality, access, R&D capacity and competitive cost-efficiency of Connecticut’s health care system. We are looking forward to obtaining our Certificate Of Need (CON) in 2024 so we can begin construction of this remarkable new resource!

Since we announced our project in April of 2020, the circle of support across Connecticut has been very encouraging! All we need is our Certificate Of Need (CON) so we can proceed!
